Mrs. Linette Fox, 77, of Charlotte, NC, departed this life on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Novant Health Presbyterian.
Linette Pratt Fox, Ph.D. was born October 13, 1947, in Morven, NC to the late Lebert Norton and John Lester Pratt. At the age of eleven, she moved to Charlotte, NC to live with her uncle and aunt, Winford and Elesworth Blue, for the remainder of her childhood.
She attended McRae School in Morven until she moved to Charlotte in 1959. She continued her education in Charlotte Mecklenburg schools and graduated from West Charlotte High School in the class of 1965. After high school graduation, she furthered her education at Central Piedmont Community College and later transferred to Bennett College in Greensboro, NC where she earned a BA degree. She continued with a Masters degree from The University of North Carolina in Greensboro and a Doctorate degree from Union Institute in Cincinnati, OH.
In 1971, a mutual friend introduced Linette to Edward F. Fox, and on May 26, 1973, they were married at St. Luke Baptist Church. To this union was born two children, Jenica and Juan.
Linette found Christ at an early age while attending St. Luke Baptist Church. She continued that walk with Christ while living in several cities around the state of North Carolina and later moved back to Charlotte with her family. Upon moving back to Charlotte in December 1983, she and her family became faithful members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She was an Adult Sunday School teacher and Deaconess.
Dr. Fox was an educator by profession. She worked at Barber Scotia College in Concord until 1984 and after leaving Barber Scotia, she worked 37 years at Johnson C. Smith University, until she retired in 2020. During her tenure at Johnson C. Smith, she traveled extensively with students and faculty. She had a love for learning and shared her knowledge with her students.
Dr. Fox was preceded in death by her sisters, Mattie Brown and Geraldine Norton, and two brothers, Lewis Pratt and Wyndom Norton.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her husband, Edward Fox, of the home; her daughter, Jenica of Roanoke, VA; her son, Juan of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, Taliyah of Boston, MA, Nicholas, Evan and Eliza of Roanoke, VA; sisters, Ardrine Johnson of Baltimore, MD, Priscilla Dawson (Darryl) of Charlotte and W. Kay Jordan of Charlotte, NC; and many other in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
