Obituary

Mrs. Barnhill beloved wife of the late Honorable Howard C. Barnhill of 7635 Cotton Street of Harrisburg passed at the age of 94 on October 31, 2019.

Born November 3, 1924, Mrs. Barnhill was the youngest daughter of Allie and Roxie Clay of Roxboro North Carolina.

Following graduation from Person County High School, Lois matriculated at North Carolina A&T State University, graduating with a degree in Home Economics and Science. She furthered her studies at at he University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the Chicago School of Interior Decoration.

Mrs. Barnhill's career as an educator began as a Home Demonstration Agent from 1948 to 1954 in Pitt and Iredell Counties. She then taught in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System until her retirement in 1981.

After retiring from teaching she accompanied her husband on all of his forays while he served as a NC representative in the NC General Assembly. Lois served, as Corresponding Secretary for the Sir Walter Cabinet comprised of spouses of the members of NC General Assembly.

Lois had many and varied interests. She was always willing to have family, friends and acquaintances come by for a meal and pound cake. She was a fervent traveler having visited 49 states and numerous countries.

She enjoyed working in her garden; if you happened to drop by you were often encouraged to participate in pruning or planting. Many of us witnessed the opening of her Night Blooming Cercus cactus. She and her husband of 48 years hosted the Monday Evening Bridge Club. As a member of the Kappa Silhouettes' she organized numerous gatherings. Lois was also a member of the Charlotte Links, Inc.

After living in Charlotte, she moved to Harrisburg in April of 2000 to be close to her son, daughter-in law and grandchildren.

While living Charlotte Lois served on numerous civic committees, after moving to Harrisburg she served on The Envision Cabarrus Committee.

Her husband of 48 years the Honorable Howard C Barnhill, Sr. and her daughter Angela Barnhill McLeod predeceased Lois.

Lois is survived by her son Howard C. Barnhill, Jr, his wife Barbara Pendleton Barnhill; Grandchildren; Damien, Taryn and Emma and 3 Great Grandchildren.

Lois is survived by many beloved Nieces and Nephews.

Thank you to our neighbors in Flowers Farms who welcomed Lois and did everything from shovel the snow off her drive way to bring her paper to her front door.
