Lonnie Burris Jr., 73, of Mount Holly, NC, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

Lonnie Burris, Jr. was born on March 31, 1953, in York, South Carolina, to the late Lonnie Burris, Sr. and Mary Burris. He entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Lonnie attended Roosevelt High School in Clover, South Carolina. He worked in the construction industry.

Lonnie was known for his energetic, outgoing spirit and his unmistakable presence. He had a loud, joyful personality and was famous for his signature expressions – “Solid,” “Awesome,” “Gurll” – that brought laughter and light to those around him. He had an enormous heart and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed the simple things in life, especially spending time at home in his personal space, relaxing and watching his favorite western movies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Louvenia Carothers, Johnny Burris, Mozel Nelly and Marthia Burris.

He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Michael Larnell Lewis of Gastonia, NC; four grandchildren, Demetrious Lewis of Washington, DC, Jamichael Lewis of Mt. Holly, NC, Sirmichael Lewis and Miccah Lewis, both of Gastonia, NC. Lonnie is also survived by his sisters, Mary Burris (James), Margaret Currence and Francina Burris; and his brother, William Burris, all of Mt. Holly, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Lonnie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His laughter, warmth and “larger than life” personality will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
