Loyce Conchita Yvonne Fairfax Gill, 84 of Charlotte, daughter of the late Charles and Marion Fairfax was born on January 7, 1935 in Boston, MA. Loyce departed her life on October 21, 2019, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
She graduated high school from The Alice Freeman Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, North Carolina. She then went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and a master's degree in psychology from Cambridge College in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Loyce was a passionate educator and lifelong learner. She had a great sense of humor, with a vibrant personality and a zest for life that often left people in stitches. Loyce had a laugh that was contagious and heartfelt. She had a smile that lit up a room she entered. Throughout her life she loved listening to live music, dancing, roller skating and was a trained ballerina, advancing to pointe. She was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. Loyce's only sibling, Charlotte Canada, was her best friend and through the years, they traveled together and spent many long nights reminiscing over childhood memories, up until her final days.
Loyce spent her career of more than 35 years as a dedicated teacher with the Brookline Public School System, where she had the honor of teaching children from kindergarten through the third grade. In the final years of her career, she designed the launched an after-school program providing much need service to at-risk inner-city students. After successfully operating this program for several years, Loyce retired in 1997 and relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina to be closer to her mother and children.
As a lifelong Christina, Loyce became an active member of Steele Creek AME Zion Church. She continued her love of teaching serving as a Sunday School teacher, vacation bible schoolteacher and a membership class leader. Prior to the onset of Alzheimer's, on most Sunday's, Loyce could be found in the pews enjoying worship and singing along to the choir.
Loyce was married to Ronald Gill and from this union they had three children, Stephen, Kenneth, and Shauna.
Loyce was proceeded by her father, Charles Fairfax and her mother, Mairon Gomes Farifax. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Charlotte Edwina Canada (Earl), Ronald Edward Gill; three children, Stephen Edward Gill (Kathy), Kenneth Manuel Gill and Shauna Lisa Marion Morris (John). Her Brother-in-law Tessil Collins (Candelaria); three grandchildren, Deion Gill, DeVaughn Gill and Lauren Morris. She also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and cherished friends.
