Our Heavenly Father has called home his loyal and faithful servant, our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague, and friend to his welcoming arms.
Lynda Gaye Wardlaw Duncan was born on December 19, 1949. She was the daughter of Louie and Rosa Wardlaw and raised in a loving military family in Fayetteville, North Carolina; Regensburg, Germany; Fort Bragg North Carolina; and then again in Fayetteville. Lynda attended one of last all-Black High Schools in Fayetteville, Anne Chestnut High School, before transferring to Seventy-First Senior High School where she graduated as a member of one of the first integrated classes in the school's history. Lynda attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina where she studied three years and met her college sweetheart, Elroy Duncan. She pledged Swing Phi Swing, Inc., a Dynamic cheerleader, and was very active in campus activities, and made many friendships that have lasted a lifetime.
Lynda and Roy were joined in marriage in 1972 and together they had two children. Over the years, Lynda and family lived in Charlotte, NC, Petersburg, VA; Baltimore, MD; Durham, NC, and then returned to Charlotte to live out their retirement. Lynda raised her children mostly in Durham, NC where they were active in the community. Lynda worked as a Blood Gas Technician at Duke University Hospital, finished her Bachelor's Degree at North Carolina Central University, and served as the proud owner and operator of Lynda D's Custom Matting and Framing where she and Elroy created hundreds of beautiful framing arrangements for clients, family, and friends.
The oldest of seven children, Lynda accomplished many "firsts" for the family and lovingly set the example for her brothers and sisters to emulate. Lynda was a loving and caring mother, highly respected colleague, and a person of great faith. Her most recent church home was Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Lynda was preceded in death by her brother, Louie R. Wardlaw; mother, Rosa Price Wardlaw; sister Bobbi Wardlaw (Wesley); and father, Louie E. Wardlaw. She is survived in life by her husband, Elroy Duncan; son, Elroy Duncan, II; daughter, Tia Moore (Rob); four grandchildren, Alexus, Ava, Cameron, and Brooklyn; four brothers, Ricardo Wardlaw (renee'), Butch Wardlaw (Melissa), Darrol Wardlaw (Miranda), and Kevin Wardlaw (Janyce).
