Margaret "Tina" Newsome 82, of Charlotte NC, formerly of Philadelphia PA passed away April 19, 2020 at the Atrium Health Hospital Northeast in Concord NC. She was preceded in death by her parents Norwood Alexander and Marie Cannon. Margaret was born June 11th 1937 to Norwood Alexander and Marie Cannon in Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, Concord NC. Margaret would go on to be affectionately known as "Tine" as she was raised in the Fishertown Section of Kannapolis NC. She became a member of Bethpage United Presbyterian Church where she attended services regularly.
Tine was adventurous and a happy child as a youth and would go on to graduate from George Washington Carver High School, Kannapolis NC in 1956. She made up her mind early to explore life
outside of Fishertown and decided to move to Philadelphia upon the urging of her brother Bill and cousin Ruby. She moved to Philadelphia immediately after graduating high school and moved in with her cousin. Tine after moving to Philadelphia found most people in Philly when she introduced herself called her Tina rather than Tine and she thought Tina sounded better, so Tine was now Tina. She worked early on at golf country club when she arrived and served as a cashier at a women's boutique until she met the apple of her eye, Samuel Newsome. Sam was introduced to her by Cousin Ruby as a fellow worker with Board of Education in 1960. Tina would tell you she didn't pay any attention to him on introduction or the first couple times they spoke, Sam would tell you she was hooked from the first moment she saw him. They would go on to be married on February 11th 1961 and remain married until Sam's passing in 2018 for a total of 57 years. You be the judge of what happened on first sight. J
They would go on to raise three sons, Harvey, Tony and Ronald. Tina took great pride in raising her family and taking care of her home. In 1969, the family purchased their home in Southwest Philadelphia. Tina continued to work for an additional five years before she took Sam up on his offer of her not working and she taking care of the home. She poured her time and passion into decorating her home and taking care of her boys. She was everything a mother could be to her sons teaching manners, emphasizing education and always providing a sympathetic ear after a tough time with Dad. She even became a sports fan, she loved basketball and every Carolina Hoop team. In Philadelphia with three boys she loved the Eagles, 76ers and Phillies. She took an interest in everything her children were interested in.
A passion for her was entertaining others in her home and cooking for family. Tina loved music especially the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, Joe Simon and Johnny Taylor to name a few. She loved almost every male gospel quartet as she felt the mass choirs in gospel did too much screaming. There were many days of food, fun and dancing at the Newsome residence. Tina should be remembered for that great unique laugh of hers and how real and down to earth she could be in conversations with others. Those that remember will always tell you she could make you laugh. Who could forget conversations with her and she'd say "Right On!" when she wanted to show you affirmation or agreement to what you said.
As time would pass, Tina would later accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior and join the New Spirit Community Presbyterian Church with her Husband. She was very passionate about her grandchildren, Shakir, Zuri and Ronald Jr. She prayed for them constantly and loved their conversations. She had special love for all of them and made sure they knew it.
In May of 2017, Sam and Tina moved from Philadelphia to Charlotte to live out their golden years. Her husband Sam, of 57 years, passed on October 6, 2018. Tina would live out the rest of her life living with her beloved sister Sylvia, going home to be with lord April 19, 2020. She is survived by her children, sons Harvey (Yolanda), Ronald, her grandsons Shakir and Ronald Jr., her lone granddaughter Zuri, sisters, Sylvia Wynn (Isaiah), Elaine Moon, and brother Paul Alexander (Evelyn), her remaining Aunt, Corrine Cannon, former daughter in law Felecia Cannon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by Husband Samuel, son Tony, brothers William "Bill" McCullough (Carolyn), Fletcher "June" Moon (Brendetta), Thomas "TC" Cannon, and sister Irene "Ring" Cannon.
