Marilyn Ann
Dorsey
December 5, 1945 – January 20, 2023
Marilyn An Strickland Dorsey, 77, of Huntersville, NC, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, January 20, 2023.
Marilyn Ann "Mimi" Strickland Dorsey was born to parents, Reverend Clarence Elroy Strickland and Maxine Robinson on December 5, 1945. Ann, as she was affectionately called by her family, was the oldest of four siblings; Rosalind Strickland Morrison, Clarence (Verlon) Elroy Strickland, Jr., and Charles (Evelyn) Strickland.
After her graduation from West Charlotte High School, Class of 1963, she attended Central Piedmont Community College earning an associate in Secretarial Science. She attended Johnson C. Smith University where she met her husband, George Edward Dorsey, Sr., and from this union two children were born, Michele (Dwayne) Dorsey Allgood and George Edward Dorsey, Jr.
Marilyn and her husband moved to Maryland where they divorced. Marilyn chose to continue to reside in Baltimore, Maryland with her children. She worked as a secretary for Roger Holtman and Associates, landscape architects and The Department of Health and Human Services. When health problems persisted, Marilyn moved back to Charlotte, NC with her children 1982. She quickly found a new profession and passion, gemology. Marilyn worked for jewelers, Winton and Associates and retired from Carlyle and Co. (Southpark) in 2003 after a massive stroke.
Doctors provided a poor prognosis and an expected life span of 90 days after the massive stroke. However, the Lord determined that Marilyn would live for 20 years with her daughter and son-in-law in Huntersville, NC. In 2009, Marilyn joined New Zion Missionary Baptist . Marilyn was the inspiration for the creation of Gracious Living ADHCC Corporation, an adult day and healthcare program for seniors and the disabled. Gracious Living began in Huntersville, and has expanded to two additional locations in Charlotte, NC and Pineville, NC.
Marilyn is gone from this earth, but she will never be forgotten, we are thankful that God allowed us to give her flowers while she was here on earth. She leaves special memories with grandchildren, Marchetta Nicole Dorsey, Alexius Arius Dorsey, Devona Simone(Winston) Allgood Smith, Dwayne Pernell, Allgood, Jr., great-grandchild, Minya, great-God-grandchildren Ta;lani and Ta'ylor, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
