Ms. Marilyn Ann Wilkerson, 64, of Raleigh, NC, departed this life on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Atrium Cabarrus.

Early in the morning as dawn was beginning on August 23,2024, Marilyn Ann Wilkerson answered her call and transitioned to her home.

Marilyn was born to her parents, Mary A. Wilkerson and the late Bruce McDowell, on October 22, 1959.  She was their only child.  Marilyn was raised by her grandparents, the late George and Marie W. Wilkerson.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Austin James of Durham NC; granddaughter, Aubrie Mounee Middleton-James; her mom, Mary A. Wilkerson of Charlotte NC; and two sisters, Nina McDowell and Marsha McDowell of Jacksonville, FL.  Marilyn was survived by her aunts, Georgia Bethea of Union, NJ, Neomie Wright, Ernestine Crawford (James), Hazel Wilkerson, Ruth Crowder, Adine Reid, all of Charlotte, NC; and a very special cousin, Deborah Wilkerson of New Jersey; and she was loved by a host of other relatives and friends.

Marilyn attended the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System where she excelled in all her classes and even received a Math Certificate from amongst five hundred plus students.

Marilyn was a faithful member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Matthews NC, under the leadership of the late Pastor Rev. J.C. Robinson. She was an active member of the Sunday School, Young People Choir, Prayer Service and more. When Marilyn relocated to Raleigh NC, she was a faithful member of the Mt. Peace Baptist Church, Raleigh NC, under the leadership of Dr. J. Vincent Terry, Senior Pastor.

In 1978, Marilyn graduated from East Mecklenburg High School, Charlotte NC. Sometime later, she attended Central Piedmont Community College and later in the 1980's, she relocated to Raleigh, NC and attended Wake Technical College. She worked at Walmart for over five years. Due to her Illness, it was very difficult for her to hold down a job, but she did her best and would never give up.

Marilyn loved the Lord Jesus Christ; she told her family she had made it in.  She was a loving and caring person.  In the building she lived in, she was loved by so many; she was like the store that they could come to if they needed anything.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing."  II Timothy 4:7-8
