Rev. Marion McElwaine Sr. 59 of Charlotte, transitioned out of his earthly body on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Atrium Health-Main.  He was born July 18, 1962, in Charlotte, NC at Charlotte Memorial Hospital.  Marion was affectionately known by all as Roddie.  He was the son of Daisy Minger and Marion McIlwain.  His bonus father who raised him as his own is Willie H. Minger Sr.

Roddie attended Mecklenburg County Schools and obtained his GED with Gaston College, where he was employed for many years as a custodian, a job he loved.  Later, in his life he enjoyed driving and meeting new people through his self-employment with Lyft.

Roddie was a caring, humorous man who never met a stranger.  He had an amazing smile that would light up a room.  Roddie was a loyal "Eagles" fan and enjoyed letting everyone know.  He loved being around family and tried as hard as he could to never miss a family event.  Roddie was extremely proud and honored to be a father and grandfather.

Roddie's memories will be forever cherished.  He is survived by his daughter, Brandi McElwaine; son, Marion McElwaine Jr. (Shana); his fiancee' and caregiver, Jacqueline Hamilton; Brothers, Willie Minger Jr. (Angie) and Nathan Minger Sr. (Erica); Sister, Tasha Minger (Nate); Bonus father, Willie Minger Sr; his aunts, Rose Gleaton (Walt), Bobby McDowell, and Brenda Burson (Tim).  Roddie will also be missed by his grandchildren, as well as a host of cousins and friends.

Roddie was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Minger; father, Marion McIlwain; uncles, James McIlwaine and Oscar McIlwaine; his aunt, Laxie Black; his nephew, Joshua Fleming; and his cousins, Richard McIlwaine, Gary Black, Angela Black and Virginia Boston.
