Obituary

Marva Modestine Burke was the daughter of Llewelyn "Ding Ding" and Christiana "Lumlee" Doldron. Born January 27, 1942 in Trinidad and Tobago; Hickling Village, Fyzabad. She was called home on August 18, 2020 after 78 years. Marva's death is sure to bring sorrow to those who loved and was touched by knowing her in this life. When people we love are taken from our midst, we struggle with dealing with their absence. With all that is going on in the world these days it can extra difficult with dealing with loved ones are asked to go home.

However, death is as natural as life: All that has life has its beginning and end. So often in life we take for granted the things of real importance, but in times like this we are quickly reminded of the meaning often his life, those we share it with and the hope of being reunited with our love ones in eternal life. We recognize today that although Marva's physical presence is gone, the relationship with her does not end. So today, we have come together to celebrate the life of Marva Modestine Burke. I do not think that there is anyone who does not feel enriched by having known Marva aka "Mav" aka "Soukie".

Marva was always remembered as a person who was full of life and who lived life to the fullest. She was known affectionately as a nurturing person who "ran the house". It would not be unusual to see her cooking, baking, making treats for family and friends. She always made sure everyone was "ok". She lived the way she wanted to live. She is described as having the run of the house when her mom was busy. She also was a Carnival Queen in the 60's named Ms. Fyzabad. She loved her family and friends around her. She grew up in a stable God-fearing home in the "Quarters" with her parents and 7 siblings who were loving and supportive.

While growing up in Trinidad as a young adult she went to school to learn pastry making and hairdressing. She worked for Hilton hotel in Port of Spain for a few years as an telephone operator and after some years in the mid 80's she migrated to the US where she worked with the sick and elderly until she retired in the mid 2014

Marva was blessed with love in her life which produced her wonderful children which were very important to her Ken, Nigel and Kurt.

A few years after she migrated to the US in the late 80's she married Selwyn Burke for about 10 years before she separated from him. Marva loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family and friends were very important to her and she loved having the people around her that loved her. She was always helpful to her children and family members. She worked hard but always took the time out to nurture and love everyone.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son Nigel, grandchildren Darrian Kyia, Kaden,  and her siblings Carl, Pepe, and Winston.

Marva leaves a loving legacy of family to mourn her remaining sons Ken, Kurt, and adopted son Mario and  Daughter in laws, Lisa, Therese and Aquetta. She leaves grandchildren, Akil, Jenae, Destiny, Indira, Khadija, Kenteria, Christine, Adyson, Meiling and her great grands; siblings, Marjorie, Lenox (Cheryl), Gilbert (Angela), and Patsy and a multitude of nieces and nephews and many close friends and extended family members here in the States and abroad.

Marva will be remembered as a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. The love, and memories will live on through her family and friends. May the memory of Marva who we will always love will continue to enlightened our thoughts and lives! She was humble, a mother to many, one of a kind in the world and she will live on in our hearts always.
