Obituary

Marvin Capers, son of the late Henry Capers and Pauline Geraldine Thomas, was born on July 9, 1941, in Hartsville, South Carolina.
Marvin's life was full of achievements, dating back to his high school years.  He graduated from Butler High School in 1960 and was part of the Butler High School Team to win the State Championship for Football in 1959.  Not only did he partake in football, he was also talented in baseball.
Marvin Capers' talent was featured in a book called The City We Knew But Everyone Forgot: The African American Experience, written by Emory L. Waters.
Marvin was one of Butler High School's Shining Stars; he was offered a scholarship to attend South Carolina Area Trade School in Demark, South Carolina where he graduated in Electrical Engineering Certified.
Marvin, like others back in the 60's, took his talents and moved to New York City where he worked for the Housing Authority and retired from the New York City Transit Authority as a Motorman Specialist for over 30 years.  He served as Community Leader in Brooklyn, New York.
Marvin Capers was a Grand Master Mason Brother of African Four Fifty-Nine Lodge #63 in Brooklyn NY.
Marvin loved to organize family reunions and his greatest hobbies were fishing and playing Bid Whist.
In 2012, Marvin Capers moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and continued to volunteer in his community.  He would often take walks in the community and was always watching out for his daughter, June and others.
Marvin was known to make his family laugh with this one Statement, " LET Me HOLD Something" (Money).
On Thursday, May 26, 2022, God whispered to Marvin like a light and took him home to rest, "My Son, Marvin, no more pain and no more suffering."
He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved Queen, Doris Miller; his son, Reginald Capers (Marie); daughters, June Johnson and Jacqueline Fritts (Preston); his beloved step-daughter, Tangela Dozier (Rory); son, Jeffery Miller and daughter, Sharon Perry; his aunt, Frances Owens; two sisters, Linda Singleton and Essie Crosley (George); beloved cousins, Barbra Capers, Wayne Capers and Donald Ray Blackmon; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of family who loved him dearly.
