Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Grier-Williams Bowser was born in Charlotte, NC on October 28, 1935, and passed away on January 4, 2023. She was the daughter of Mrs. Willette Williams-Wallace and Mr. Marcel Grier also Mr. Nesbitt Wallace was her stepfather. At the age of six months, she lost her mother and was raised by her maternal grandmother Mrs. Mary Alexander Williams. She attended the Rockwell School, which was a historical Rosenwald School for negroes located in Derita, NC and graduated from Huntersville High School in 1954. From her early childhood to the end of her life she was an active and faithful member to Rockwell AME Zion Church. She served on Steward's Board #2, the Senior Usher Board, WHOMS-life member, Pastor's Aide, Sanctuary Choir, Women's Choir, Mass Choir and Home Missions. Mrs. Bowser is a member of one of the two founding families of Rockwell AME Zion Church: the Alexanders and the Williams.
Mrs. Bowser has worked in various employment positions throughout her lifetime. She worked as a server and cook at Mrs. Luetta Johnson's restaurant. She worked as a housekeeper for some of the most prominent families in Charlotte, NC: the Hardins, Lindseys, Terrells, Chaplins, Hollidays and the Pappas. She also worked for the Budd Group cleaning offices for NCNB (Bank of America). In 1960, she married Mr. James Bowser. They had two children Willette LaVelle Bowser and James Bowser, Jr. the greatest joys of her life. Mrs. Bowser was widowed on July 5, 1982, and continued to raise her two children at the young ages of fifteen and thirteen with the help of the Lord. Both graduated from Independence High School and enlisted into the military earning their college degrees.

Cousins: Betty Houston-Greene (NC), Donald Williams (Cynthia) (NC), Harold Williams (NC), David Bailey, Sr. (Barbara) (MD), Selena Nobles (VA), Willette Bullock (VA). Grandsons: Mahki Young (NC) and Markell Z. Young (NC) and many other relatives and friends.
