Mrs. Mary Jane Carruthers Cornelius, 81 of Charlotte, was called home to Glory on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in Dallas, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Willie Carruthers and Janie Mobley Carruthers. She was born February 26, 1941 in Charlotte, NC.
Mrs. Cornelius retired as a private duty Certified Nursing Aide of over 30 years of service. She enjoyed taking care of people. After joining China Grove AME Zion church in the early 90's she contributed to many committees and auxiliary boards. She loved her church family and service on the usher board, President of the Deaconess and Christian ED Board, sung on the Inspirational Choir, but her favorite was teaching Sunday school to children and youth. Later on, she received her Exhorter's license to teach. Mrs. Cornelius took a step back from China Grove and assisted Rev. Thomasina Wilson, of Wilson Memorial, with teaching Sunday school and President of the Deaconess board. She also assisted Dr. Fred Lee, Jr with his church, Jesus Christian Center, in the Pine Valley community. Mrs. Cornelius, when living in senior apartments also, hosted bible study on Wednesday evenings. She returned back on China Grove teaching Sunday school for a few more years until 2015 and remained faithful serving on the Deaconess board until God called her home. She truly loved the Lord and served Him well!
Mrs. Mary Cornelius is the mother of five children; two preceded in death, Kim Cornelius and Juan Carrouthers. She leaves behind to cherish her memories of her straight forwardness, laughter, fun and love; her daughter Kisha White; two sons William Carrouthers and Deno Cornelius; three brothers Tony Carrouthers (Elaine), Steve Carrouthers (Phillis) and Kory Carrouthers all of Charlotte, NC.
