Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Fletcher, 76, of Charlotte, North Carolina, departed this life on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Novant Health Presbyterian Main.  Most often called Elizabeth by friends and colleagues, she was affectionately called "Liz" or "Lib" by family.

Elizabeth was born on December 23, 1948, to the late John Lewis and Sadie Fletcher.  She graduated from North Mecklenburg Senior High School in 1969 and attended Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, North Carolina, studying in Business Administration.

Elizabeth worked several jobs, but none were more fulfilling than the years she worked at North Mecklenburg High School as an EC Assistant where she worked with special needs students her entire tenure there.  She also worked over twenty years for the CMS After School Driver Education Program hosting the privilege of Classroom Instructor, Site Coordinator, and Behind-the-Wheel Instructor at North Mecklenburg High School and various other schools in northern Mecklenburg County.  She was a lifetime member of the North Carolina & South Carolina Association of Driver Education Teachers, National Association of Driver Education Teachers and a member of the North Carolina Traffic & Highway Safety Committee, Regional and National.

Elizabeth deeply loved her family and encouraged her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to be the best, work hard, study hard in school and seek success in a positive manner.  She always wanted to serve and care for others.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, John Lewis and Sadie Fletcher; one grandson, Khalil Sifford; her brother, Lewis Fletcher and his wife, Mattie Fletcher; and her brother, Herman Fletcher.

She is survived by her daughter, April Fletcher; grandsons, Jaylin Sifford, Malik Sifford, King Boyce; and granddaughter, Londyn Boyce; great-granddaughters, Ni'lah Sifford and Ava Sifford; brothers, Emanuel Fletcher (Bonnie) and Robert Fletcher; sister-in-law, Thelma Lucky Fletcher.  Also left to cherish her memories are a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and her extended family at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Huntersville, North Carolina.

Elizabeth was deeply loved and respected by all who knew her.  Her life made the world a better place.  May her memory bring comfort to those whose lives she touched.
