Ms. Mary Ann "Deuce" Adams Freeman, 74 of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday January 24, 2019 at her residence. Mary was born April 3, 1944 in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late John W. Adams Sr. and Sarah Stinson Adams.
Mary Ann was a lifelong member of Big Pineville AME Zion Church where she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior early in life. She sang on the choir, served as a class leader and was a deaconess.
She graduated from Sterling High School in 1962 and Kate Bitting Nursing School, earning her certification to become a registered nurse in 1965. Mary Ann worked at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, later named Carolina Medical Center from 1965-2003. She was the First President of the Black Nurses Association.
She was a faithful wife to James S. Freeman and to this union was given two children. She was the second of eight children; she was preceded in death by one brother John W. Adams Jr. and son James L. Freeman.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Karen Freeman Sanders (Terrence), sisters, Elizabeth A. Dunlap, Sarah A. Harris, brothers, Willie J. Adams (Augusta), Morris N. Adams, Robert A. Adams, and Alfred Adams (Diane); seven grandchildren (who was the best and the most fun), two great-grandchildren and five sister-in-laws, one brother-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
