Mary Peoples Lampkin, daughter of the late Al Peoples, Sr. and Essie Rawlinson Peoples, was born on November 7, 1930. She passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Lampkin was 94.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was educated in the York County School System and later retired from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools after many years of dedicated service. Her gentle spirit, kindness, and devotion to family touched the lives of all who knew her.
Mary was well known for her exceptional cooking. Everything she prepared was delicious and she made the best sweet potato pies. She loved traveling, especially to the beach with her family and friends, and spent many joyful years participating in league bowling. To know Mary was truly to love her. Her warmth, laughter and generosity left lasting impressions on everyone she met.
Mary was a longtime and faithful member of Pineville A.M.E. Zion Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. Mary loved the Lord deeply and lived a long, fruitful, and purpose-filled life.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Willie Lampkin; her mother-in-law, Earnie Clark (John); her son, Willie C. Lampkin; her siblings, Eddie Neal, Elijah Peoples, Valo "Benny" Peoples (Elloree), Catherine Williams (Willie), Annie Cowans (Alis) and Ethel Massey (Henry); her sisters-in-law, Mamie Frazier; her sons-in-law, James Louis Tyler and David Simmons; her grandson, David L. Simmons, Jr.; and her special friends, Geneva McNeil and Bertha Segars.
Mary, who was also known as Mary Leomie Roxanna Gertrude and affectionately called Noon, leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Al Peoples, Jr. of Fort Mill, SC; three sons, Eddie Lampkin, Gilbert Lampkin (Creola), and Willie James Lampkin; five daughters, Mary Simmons, Ola Dunham, Thelma Guy, Essie Tyler and Earnie Boyce (Winfred Sr.), all of Charlotte, NC; two sisters-in-law, Lucinda Peoples of Fort Mill, SC and Nancy Hutchinson of Charlotte, NC; special friend, Doris Hudson; eighteen grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, and forty-six great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
