Ms. Mary Marsh, 87 of Charlotte, passed away on Friday January 4, 2019 at her residence. Mary was born April 29, 1931 in Hertford, NC to Menford and Fannie White.

Mary was one of thirteen children and attending Perquimans County Schools.  At an early age she displayed an interest in learning, so she moved to Winfall, NC, and prepared for college under the tutelage of Jessie and Lena Perry.

She enrolled in Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC and in 1953, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education.  On December 24, 1953, she married her college sweetheart, Maurice Marsh.  The couple settled in Greensboro, NC, where Mary taught Shakespeare at a local high school and worked with the Guilford County Department of Social Services (DSS) as a social worker.

Later the couple moved to Charlotte, NC, where Mary worked as a teacher and social worker with Teen-Age Parents Services of Mecklenburg County and with the Nivens Special Education programs.  She also worked for Gaston County DSS to help families with young children.

Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years, Maurice; her four children, Elena, Maureen, Sandra and Myron; daughter-in-law, Shannon; grandchild, Tayler, all of Charlotte, three brothers, Lemuel and Darrell of Columbus, GA, and Walter Daniel of Winfall, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
