Mary Geraldine Norton, 79 of Charlotte, left her Earthly body on Wednesday June 24, 2020 at Atrium Health-Main.  She was born September 2, 1940 in Anson County North Carolina.  Gerry, as she was affectionately known by family and friends.  She joined her parents, Winford and Elesworth Blue and lifetime companion, Johnnie Clay Nelson in eternal rest.

Gerry grew up in Morven, NC, later moving to Charlotte, NC in her teenage years.  She graduated from Second Ward high School.  After graduating from high school, she worked at the hospital before relocating to Michigan.  Gerry made Michigan her home and resided there for more than 50 years.

She was employed at Flint Genesee Jobs Corps Center in Flint, Michigan, from September 1997 to June 2012.  Gerry was known as "Granny" in the center and was loved by students and staff.  She was honored in Chicago, IL by the Regional Director of the Department of Labor for the "Unsung Hero Award" in 2002 for her commitment and dedication to the students at the Flint Genesee Job Corps Center.  Gerry made sure that every student would get a hot meal and they loved her "Cheesy Grits".

Gerry leaves to cherish her memories Mattie Brown (Thomas), Linette Fox (Edward) and Kay Jordan, all of Charlotte, and Priscilla Thomas of Snellville, GA; and a goddaughter, Bertha Sligh; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
