I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV.
Madam Mary Naa Aku Pappoe, 73 of Charlotte, left us to be with her Maker on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Atrium Health-University. She was born at James Town (British Accra) on January 1, 1948. Her parents were Mr. John Okantah Pappoe and Madam Grace Kokumah Ankrah, all of blessed memory. She was the first of nine children and that earned her the enviable name Sister Nkpa.
Sister Nkpa, as she was affectionately called, started her education at the Kaneshie Methodist Primary and Middle Schools. On completion, she proceeded to the Osu Salem Secondary School. All this while, she lived with her step-mother, Aunty Ofosuwaa, who also taught her the art of doughnut and pancake making and which fortunately became her first port of call in her business life.
After her secondary education, she went into business by making doughnut and pancakes for sale. This went on for a while until she got married to Emmanuel Tetteh, a now retired Customs Officer. From then on, she switched business to petty trading at Makola market in Accra. Their marriage was blessed with six children (four strong boys and two beautiful girls).
Aunty Aku was a very religious woman, she taught and brought her children up the Christian way. She rarely missed a Sunday church service to praise and worship her Maker. She was a member of the Ghana Apostolic Church, Nazareth Branch at Dansoman, Zone 6 and here in Charlotte she was a member of McLean Road Baptist Church.
Sister Nkpa was a dependable, loving and caring mother not only to her immediate family, but also all she came in contact with. This earned her another enviable name THE PEOPLE'S MOTHER.
Even in our grief, we take consolation from the fact that the Almighty God will preserve her soul in His bosom until we meet again.
