Mary W. Harris, 81 of Charlotte, passed away on Saturday May 18, 2019 at Novant Health-Huntersville. She was born December 25, 1937, to the late James W. Worth and Lillie B. Maske Worth in Rockingham NC. She was a special gift to her entire family especially her father, who shared the same birth date.
Mama lived Rockingham NC from her birth until 1969. During her early life in her home town she attended Richmond County Schools and was a faithful member of Walls Chapel AME Zion Church. While there she was the "Song Bird" of the church. People said when Mama sang they had to stop and just listen. During this time in her life she married Jessie Lee Harris. In 1969 Mama made a major transition to Charlotte, NC to start a new life.
While working a full-time job, at a family owned and operated, Chicken-Nett Drive In, with three of her siblings, all while attending classes at Mercy Hospital for Nursing. Mama was also full-time mom to 9 children. She held her own, as you can look around and see, she did well!!
Mama worked at "Radiator Specialist", for 15 years until she became ill. But that would stop Mama!!!! She worked as a professional Nanny for several families in Charlotte, NC. Loving others was Moms Specialty!! She also did this through her cooking. No matter who's birthday it was in her immediate family, Mama baked your favorite cake!!! No matter what she cooked, you could rest assure that it was going to be good!!!
Mama faithfully attended Saint Luke Baptist Church for 5 years. In 1980, the Lord lead her to The Church of Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith in Charlotte, NC where she was baptized in "Jesus Name and received the Holy Ghost" while folding clothes in her laundry room! She remained faithful steward of that ministry for over 20 years. In 2009 Mama decided to transition to Calvary Christian Church of the Apostolic Faith until her health failed!! Mama use to say, "Now That's How Church Supposed to Be!"
Mama was a loving Mother that told you when you were wrong and always stood on the Word of God, no matter what!!!
Mama was preceded in death by six Brothers: Joseph, Purcell, Sidney, Robert Leo Sr., Earl, James Worth Jr.; one Sister: Lillie B. Covington and a Great Granddaughter Cheyenne Harris Worth.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Persaler Worth Sr. (Darlene), Rockhill, SC, Alvester (Addie) Worth Sr., Timothy Worth, both of Charlotte, NC; Annette (Robert) Covington, Sr., Rockingham, NC, Carey (Bonita) Worth, Waxhaw, NC; Carolyn (Reginald) Bostic Sr., Charlotte, NC; Kent Worth, Michelle Harris and Jessica Harris all of Charlotte, NC. One brother Rev. Leroy Worth Sr., of Raleigh, NC; Two Sisters: Kathy Bigood, Bronx, NY; Carrie Short, Manhattan, NY; 26 Grandchildren and 38 Great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
