Obituary

The beautiful Mattie Norton Brown was born to the late Leebert Norton Hills and John Williams Bivens on October 4, 1941, in Morven, NC. She received her wings on Saturday, October 8, 2022.

She was educated in the Anson County Schools and graduated from McCrae High School in Morven, NC. Mattie later moved to Charlotte, NC where she continued her education earning a business degree from Rutledge College and Cosmetology license from Southeastern Beauty School.

Mattie was a devoted Christian. She accepted Christ at an early age while attending Streater Grove AME Zion Church in Morven, NC. She continued her walk with the Lord at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. She was very active in church serving in many capacities.

In August 1963, she married the love of her life, Thomas Brown. Their love grew and God blessed them with four beautiful children.

Mattie's outgoing personality, compassionate, and caring spirit were evident throughout her life. She loved her family and friends and was always willing to help in any way. Her nurturing way touched the lives of many who were blessed to know her.

Her love and memories will remain in the hearts of her husband of fifty-nine years, Thomas Brown, of the home, children, Thomas Eric Brown of Dallas,TX, Lisa Minor (Troyd) of Ellenwood, GA, Tonetta Taylor (Lamont), of Charlotte, and Kenya Brown, of the home, five grandchildren, Alexea Brown of Brooklyn, NY, Chelsea and Erin Brown of Dallas, TX, Asia Minor of Ellenwood, GA, and Joshua Taylor of Charlotte; her siblings, Linette Fox (Edward) of Charlotte, Ardrine Johnson of Baltimore, MD, Nolen Bivens (Pamela) of Woodbridge, VA, Deborah Cunningham (John) and Frances Davis (Daniel) of Charlotte, Leander Bivens (Marnita) of Cheraw, SC; sister-in-law, Ollie Jenkins of Spartanburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Pratt and Wyndom Norton.
