Mrs. Mattie Mae Jenkins, 84, of Charlotte, NC departed this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Novant Hospice.

Mrs. Mattie G. Jenkins, a long time resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Novant Health.

She was born in 1939 to Ivory Washington Davis and Stella Mae Belk of Lancaster, South Carolina.  Ms. Mattie was a savvy business owner as a florist, masseuse, and home health care provider.

Ms. Mattie was not only beautiful, she was brilliant.  With minimal formal education, she was able to teach herself anything because she could read.  Ms. Mattie even took computer classes at the local Goodwill, keeping abreast of changing technology.

Grammy, as she was affectionately called, leaves behind a legacy of work ethic, skills and good character.  She taught us how to save money, cook, bake, sew, love and forgive.  Her legacy survives her as she leaves behind her only child, Jennifer E. Dunlap of Columbia, SC; three granddaughters, Dianna D. Newman (Trey) of Charlotte, NC, LaQuetta S. Henry (John) of Strong, AR; Jennifer A. Dunlap of Durham, NC; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sylvester Harris, James Davis; sister, Margaret D. Smith, all of Charlotte, NC; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
