Mr. Melvin Eugene Mason, of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday June 2, 2019.   He was born to the late Rev. William F. Mason and the late Thelma Moore Mason, on July 28, 1954 in Mecklenburg County.

Mr. Mason attended Mecklenburg County schools and graduated from Harry P. Harding High School in 1972.  At the early age of 14, his first  employment was at Open Kitchen and Red Lobster in Charlotte, NC.  Mr. Mason also held  employment as a fork lift operator during his years of employment.  His last employment was at Cargo Logistics as a Courier, until his health declined.  He was affectionately known to many Charlotte residents as the "Paper Man" for delivering the Charlotte Observer newspaper for over years.

Mr. Mason was a man of faith.  He loved to sing and serve in the church.  Early in his life, Mr. Mason joined Little Rock AME Zion Church and was a member of the Mass Choir.  Later in life, Mr. Mason joined Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church, where he served as the President of the Men's Choir and was a member of the Senior Gospel Choir.  Continuing in his spiritual calling, Mr. Mason served as a Deacon at Unity International Family Worship Center, Charlotte, NC.  Mr. Mason was a huge sports advocate and loved his hometown team, CAROLINA PANTHERS.

Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his father and mother, the late Rev. William F. Mason and the late Thelma Moore Mason; one sister, Evelina M. Robinson; two brothers-in-law, Sam E. Townsend and Willie T. Robinson, Sr.; and one niece, Tarolyn P. Mason.

He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Tawanda Price and Junita Mason of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Talicia Price and Tamaiya Price both of Charlotte; four remaining siblings, Jean M. Chisholm, William F. Mason Jr., Thelma M. Townsend, and Laura A. Mason all of Charlotte; two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
