Michael Rene' Morrison, 64 of Charlotte, NC departed his life on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at his home of natural causes. Affectionately known as "Mike", he was born October 6, 1956 in Suisun, California where his father was stationed in the United States Air Force. He was the eldest of three children born to Thomas Herbert Morrison and Bernie Davis Morrison. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Herbert Morrison, Jr. and daughter Monique Morrison.
As a young man he developed intellectually and spiritually. Education began at Our Lady of Constellation Catholic School where he remained until moving to Asheville, North Carolina where his father was a manager at North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company. Upon returning to Charlotte, he attended University Park Elementary and North Mecklenburg High Schools playing the clarinet in the school band. Upon graduating from high school, Michael attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina majoring in Hospital Administration and while attending was inducted into Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. A proud member, he later joined the Charlotte Chapter of Groove Phi Groove. Mike's spiritual journey began at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church her in Charlotte, North Carolina as an Alter Boy where he was claimed by God as his "child" in baptism and with a promise of God's eternal support receiving Confirmation. Later in life, Michael became a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, also here in Charlotte.
Michael's professional ventures would include relocation to Memphis, Tennessee and Lynchburg, Virginia where he always seemed to work within "Sales". Returning home to Charlotte he acquired his North Carolina Insurance license, joined his father's Allstate Insurance agency and worked as a Senior License Producer. This experience convinced Michael that not only could he be as successful as his Dad but he could also become an Entrepreneur. In the late 80's, A Plus Insurance Agency was established and it grew into a flourishing business for more than fifteen years. Specializing in commercial business, Mike hit the pavement in East Charlotte and grew his business to include Contractors, Builders, Painters, and Electricians. It was the Event Policy sold to Kirk Franklin for a concert appearance in Charlotte that he seemed most excited about! Equipped with the managerial experience and the study of Hospital Administration, Michael was then prepared to move into the medical field. At the time he had no idea for what wonderful opportunities were in site. He worked at Thompson Child and Family Focus, Strategic Behavioral Center of Charlotte, and his recent employer for the last six years, Atrium Behavioral Health where he received several accolades and was recently recognized and awarded The Cardinal Award for exemplary psychiatric care. This award and the photo of Mike now hangs in the lobby of the Charlotte Behavioral Health building on Randolph Road.
Those left to cherish and celebrate his legacy include his parents Thomas and Bernie Morrison; Sister, Monica Morrison (Maple); Daughters, Shannon A. Morrison, Morgan D. Morrison; Son, Michael T. Morrison; Grandsons, Carter Colvin and Chaselin Jackson; Nephew, Jordan Maple; Cousins, Dear Friends, and a host of others.
A loving Son, Proud Father, Supportive Uncle, and Confidant to many, Mike so deeply cared about his family and friends. Michael Rene' Morrison will long be remembered for his gentle, kind, comedic and non-judgmental spirit. He will be missed by all. Thanks be to God for Michael.
