Officer Michael Lovell Rorie, 44, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Michael was born November 12, 1975, in Charlotte, NC at Presbyterian Hospital to the late James T. Rorie and Gladys H. Rorie.
Michael was a graduate of Pfeiffer University earning his BA and MBA. He was a kind and compassionate man. Always athletic, Michael played soccer, basketball, and was golf fanatic and a Boy Scout for many years. Michael was a longtime member of St. Paul Baptist Church and became a member of New Waves Baptist Church where he worshiped and enjoyed bowling outings.
Michael met his future wife Salathia late October 2015. They had a friendship that excalated quickly into a thriving relationship. Michael an Salathia were perfect soulmates. They loved traveling to different places on a whim. Michael knew he wanted to make Salathia his wife. Michael proposed to Salathia on July 29, 2017 and they were joined in union November 17, 2017. Michael and Salathis's life soon took another spin as they welcomed their bouncing baby girl Micah Lovell Rorie into the world July 17, 2018. Micah had Michael wrapped around his finger from day one.
Michael began his career in law enforcement as a Detention Officer with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. On May 17, 2000, Michael became an Officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. When Michael was named as a School Resource Officer for Piedmont Open Middle School, he became a father, mentor, hall monitor, comedian, disciplinarian, and friend to over 800 students. Michael will be remembered for showing tough love and earning the respect of the students.
Michael's favorite pastime was grilling out with family and friends, telling jokes, and watching golf. He was a source of inspiration and encouragement to everyone he encountered and will be greatly missed.
Michael is survived by his wife, Salathia Rorie; his daughter, Micah Lovell Rorie; his siblings, Willie T. Rorie (Ruby) of Charlotte, NC; Ophelia R. Moore (Marlon) of Greensboro, NC; Theresa R. Alexander of Charlotte, NC; Tamara D. Rorie of Arlington VA; Linda R. Cliett (Julius) of Woodbridge, VA; and Emily L. Rorie of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Paul Britt and four sisters-in-laws, Gretchen Britt of St. George; Janice L. Richardson (Curtis) of Florence, SC; and Mary Jenkins (Ernest) of Charlotte, NC. He leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and several close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Jannie Ruth Britt.
