Monica Violda Wiggan was born on December 7, 1931, in Moneague, St. Ann, Jamaica. Monica was the daughter of Hilda Johnson and Vernon Rose. She embodied the warmth and hospitality that this beautiful island is known for. She attended Little Westly School and Stratford High school in Jamaica. After graduation, her desire to become a seamstresses increased, so she started working at Hanna Company. In 1955 she immigrated to England where she met the love of her life Lebert Leslie Wiggan. They got married in 1956 and this union produced six children.
After her return to Jamaica, Monica was employed at Star Apple Fashion, which was located on Lady Musgrave Road in Kingston. Here she worked as a supervisor for several years running the company in the absence of the owners. Monica recognized an opportunity to apply her skills within the community as an independent seamstress, as many can vouch for the beauty and quality of her craftsmanship.
Much of her earlier life was invested in building relationships which was evident by her involvement in the community at St. Joseph Road in Kingston. She worshiped at Bethel Gospel Assembly Church and had a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ and was always ready to share Him with anyone around. Following her husband's passing in 1989, Monica relocated to the Bronx, NY, then Aurora, IL, for several years, before eventually settling down in Charlotte, NC, where she spent her final years.
