Mrs. Nancy Brown, 79, of Brooklyn, NY departed this life on Monday, January 15, 2024.
Nancy Brown was more than just a woman. She was a testament to a life well-lived, marked by adventure, ingenuity, and a profound love for both her family and culture. On January 15, 2024, this remarkable woman was called to be with God at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire her loved ones.
Born and raised in the vibrant city of Brooklyn, NY, Nancy's early years were filled with love from her family. Nancy was the youngest child of seven siblings of Mary and Jeff Brandon. Nancy was very sociable and liked to dance and talk with her friends. She would go to the neighborhood park, play games, and ride the swings.
Nancy fell in love and married Ronald Brown and that union produced a son and daughter, Ronald and Linata, respectively.
Nancy was captivated by the world of education and loved working with young children. She graduated from Sarah J. Hale High School. In 1970, Nancy graduated from Kingsborough Community College and began working for the New York City Board of Education as a para-professional. There she helped elementary school children learn reading and writing. Nancy's interest in world cultures was palpable. She reveled in every moment spent traveling to other countries such as Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Egypt, South Africa, Turkey, Greece, China, Japan, and India.
There was more to Nancy than just a world traveler. She was a New Yorker through and through and culture was in her blood. She loved plays of all types, Broadway to off-Broadway, and they filled her with enthusiasm that was nothing short of infectious. Countless weekends were spent in these majestic theaters where her thunderous roars echoed pure exhilaration. She enjoyed museums as well because they showed insight into the history of humankind.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by three brothers, Leon Brandon, George Brandon and Samuel Brandon and two sisters, Bernice Brandon and Annie Drew.
As we remember Nancy Brown, she leaves behind a son Ronald, and his wife Michelle Brown; a daughter Linata Brown, sister, Doretta Davis; sister-in-law, Ella Brandon; brother-in-law, Edward Drew; grandsons, Cequan Steven and his wife Danayra, and Elijah Winn and his wife Nancy; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and tons of friends.
She will forever be remembered and cherished in our hearts. We celebrate a life well lived and a love well shared. Her life was a testament to the power of boundless love. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit lives on in the memories she created and the lives she enriched.
