Obituary

Mrs. Nannie Mae Shipp Phronebarger, 91 years of age, was born to the late Alfred and Elisa Graham on February 13, 1924 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. She passed from this life to life eternal on May 9, 2015 at Charlotte Health Care Center. Nan was the devoted wife of the late Robert Hazel (Duke) Phronebarger and was blessed with a loving son, Randy M. Phronebarger. She was also a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She received her education in Mecklenburg County and graduated from Plato Price High School. Employed by Cunningham Dry Cleaners, Nan was also a hair dresser for many years. Nan loved to read the Charlotte Observer Newspaper. At an early age, she joined Salem Baptist Church. She served in the following capacities: Editorial Staff, Usher Board, Cornerstone Committee and she sang on the Musical Choir. Later she joined the New Zion Baptist Church where she attended Sunday School, Bible Study and sang on the Gospel Choir. Mrs. Phronebarger was the oldest member of New Zion and was presented a trophy for Outstanding Dedication and Commitment to New Zion on August 10, 2012. She was a lifetime member of the Deborah Chapter #4240 Order of the Eastern Star PHA, an affiliate of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Mason of North Carolina and Jurisdiction. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Minnie M. Prather; sisters, Fannie S. Yeldell, Alda S. Lowery, and Mary (Coot) S. Bristow; and brothers, John (JC) Shipp, Otis Shipp, Bethea Shipp, Jack Shipp, Jim Shipp and Nathaniel Shipp. Nannie leaves to cherish her memories one son, Randy M. Phronebarger of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, Randy Phronebarger, Jr. and Tony Phronebarger, Jr.; and one great-grandson, Ferris A. Prather, all of Charlotte; sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Shipp, Letha Shipp and Louise Shipp (Weeze), all of Charlotte; a special niece, and caregiver, Brenda P. Haywood, also of Charlotte; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the New Zion Baptist Church, 217 West Todd Lane in Charlotte. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. and interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
