Mrs. Naomi A. Davis, 95, of Charlotte, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Matthews Health & Rehab Center.

Naomi Alexander Davis was born February 15, 1928, to the late Allen Alexander and Beatrice Alexander.  She departed this life on Wednesday, July 12th, 2023. Naomi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Calvin C. Davis, Sr., affectionately known as her 'Tootie."

Naomi attended Johnson C. Smith University, where she obtained a BS in Education.  Johnson C. Smith was also where she was initiated as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in which she was an active and dedicated soror for 76 years.  Her career as an educator spanned many years until her retirement in 1984. Known for always being immaculately dressed, she was a much admired teacher and reading specialist at several Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary schools, and impacted hundreds of young students.

She was a faithful member of First United Presbyterian Church where her beautiful soprano voice was a staple in the Chancel Choir. She also served her church as a Deacon, an Elder, and a Sunday School teacher. Many remember her for her service to this congregation and the Presbyterian Church on various councils, ministries, boards and committees, serving in leadership capacities as Clerk of Session and Moderator of Presbyterian Women.  In addition, Naomi was the biggest cheerleader of the church basketball team and was regularly in the stands at the games on Saturdays.

Naomi is survived by her cherished sons, Calvin C. Davis, Jr. (Sahsine), and Eric A. Davis, Sr. (Stephanie), all of Charlotte; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; a niece, Waltina A. Serrao; a great-nephew, Alexander Serrao; a special adopted daughter, Balerie Matthews Whisonant, and numerous other special family and friends.
