Obituary

Ophelia Roberta Perrin, 88, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026 at her residence in Charlotte, NC.

Ophelia Roberta Perrin (“Bert”)

Ophelia Roberta Perrin, affectionately known as “Bert,” was a woman of deep faith, perseverance, and love for her family. Her life reflected strength, service, and an enduring devotion to God.

Ophelia was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Ernest and Jessie Bacon. She was one of six children. Her siblings included Leon Bacon (preceded in death), Mabel Goodman (preceded in death), Ernest Bacon Jr. (preceded in death), William Bacon, and Alfred Bacon.

Ophelia was educated in the Philadelphia school system. She married Thomas Perrin Jr. at a young age, and through that union, she gave birth to her daughter, Koalani (Dolores) Perrin.

Ophelia devoted much of her working life to the healthcare system, which she considered her life’s work. While working in healthcare, she was actively involved in The National Union of Hospital and Healthcare Employees (1199C), AFL–CIO. After retiring, she continued her dedication to service and advocacy, becoming Vice President of the Philadelphia Chapter in the union’s Retirees Division.

While still in Philadelphia, Ophelia found God more deeply, and her faith became the foundation of her life. She was baptized at Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she also became a member. She expressed that no one could ever take away the love she had for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Later in life, in 2007, Ophelia relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, in Mecklenburg County, where she built a life grounded in faith and community.

After moving to Charlotte, Ophelia became a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist community. She held membership and served faithfully at both Northeast Seventh-day Adventist Church and University City Seventh-day Adventist Church. At each church, she served as a deaconess and greeter, and she participated in Sabbath School, Bible study, and church fellowship.

Ophelia also found great joy and connection through her involvement at the Eastway Regional Recreation Center in Charlotte, which includes a dedicated senior community program. She was an active participant in many of the senior offerings, including Tai Chi and yoga classes, and she enthusiastically joined activities and trips sponsored through the center. It became a meaningful part of her life, and she deeply missed being able to attend once illness prevented her from continuing.

Ophelia is survived by her daughter, Koalani (Dolores) Perrin; her brothers, Alfred Bacon and William “Billy” Bacon; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, very close friends, and her extended church family.

Ophelia believed strongly in the wisdom God placed in her heart, and she left this message for all:

“God’s wisdom given to me is this: how you start in life matters how you end up. Put God first, and your end will be forever with the Lord. Love one another, forgive one another, and lift up one another. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.”

She also wanted it known that it was not most important what she did in service, but that she loved her family deeply and prayed for those she held close — her daughter, her nieces, nephews, friends, and brothers.

Ophelia loved God to the fullest, and she loved His Son, Jesus Christ. And in her own words, she left this final farewell:

“Good night. See you in the morning.”
