Oren Nelums "Sarge" CHARLOTTE - Mr. Oren "Sarge" Nelums was born on Aug. 2, 1948, in Newberry County, SC., he passed away on April 18, 2014, at his home. He served 24 years in the U.S. Army as an E7 drill sergeant and was employed with Charlotte Mecklenburg County School Systems over 20 years. Mr. Nelums is survived by his wife, Patricia Herron Nelums, his mother, Sarah Nelums of Harlan, Ky.; three sons; three daughters; two brothers; 28 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, also a special friend, Robert.
