IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Otis Benjamin
Burnett Iii
December 8, 2019
Otis Benjamin Burnett, III, son of Otis B. Burnett, Jr and Jenny Ruth Burnett was born on October 16,1948 in Atlanta, Georgia affectionately becoming part of the tribe known as 'Grady Babies'. He departed this life on December 8, 2019 after a lengthy fight with cancer.
As the son of Baptist preacher and pastor for over 50 years, who entered the ministry under Martin Luther King, Sr., Otis grew up as the true definition of a preacher's kid. From cleaning the church to singing on the choir to recitations - he did them all. But most of all he developed a faith that allowed him to endure no matter the challenge before him with optimism, positivity, and praise.
Otis matriculated through the Atlanta Public School system and graduated from Harper High School. He later graduated from Morehouse College with a Degree in Business Administration. Otis was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. After graduation from Morehouse, he became a Bank Executive with Trust Company of Georgia. Later he joined Ford Motor Company in Charlotte, NC as one of the first Black District Sales Managers. Otis left Ford Motor Company and became part Owner of Lexus of Columbia in Columbia, SC.
No matter what his accomplishments were he always bragged about the two doctors he had as sons, an anesthesiologist and a preacher. While the calling to preach somehow missed him, Otis sought to spread the Love and goodness of Jesus through his work as a Deacon and member of the Church choir.
Once his work on Sundays was done, as an avid sports fan, nothing gave him more pleasure than to put on his Carolina Panthers attire from his extensive collection and cheer his team on - win or loss.
He leaves behind two sons: Dr. Otis B. Burnett IV (Kimberly) and Rev. Dr. Christopher P. Burnett (Damarys), grandchildren-Braxton, Bryce, Baron, Noel and Violet Burnett, sister-Denise Burnett, brother-Bernard Burnett, nieces and nephews, aunts, a host of friends and his dear friend Joyce Johnson.
