Mrs. Pearl Rachel Davenport, 96, of Charlotte, NC, departed this life on Monday, October 7, 2024, at her residence.

On Monday, October 7, 2024, Mrs. Pearl M. Davenport, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She was born April 12, 1928, in Williamsburg County, (Kingstree) South Carolina, as one of seventeen children to the late Festus and Lilly McCrea.  She was married to the late James Henry Davenport Sr.

Our loving Mother had a fulfilling career as a caregiver and nurse.  She was known in the community affectionately as "Ma Pearl."  Aside from raising her children, she helped raise more than ten children for the State of North Carolina.  She is well remembered as lending a helping hand to neighbors, friends and family. The foundation of her life was the Golden Rule, "treat others as you want to be treated."  She embraced the vivid hope of God's Kingdom, often reciting the Lord's Prayer and reading her Bible before retiring at night.

"Miss Pearlie," Pearl, the sweetest girl in the world," could instantly lift your spirits with her fabulous southern cuisine.  Neighbors remarked "she was always happy."

Her yard was her therapy. She loved gardening and flowers.  When dressed up she was never missing a beautiful hat.  Her legacy of love, hard work, dedication to family and community will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Davenport, Sr. (1999), her son, James Henry Davenport, Jr. (1990), her parents, and 15 of her siblings.

She is survived by her sister, Inez Davis; seven children, Conrad Davenport (Roberta) of Groveland, FL, Deborah Davenport, Deliah Thompson (David), McKlausty Davenport, Rose Mary Davenport, Lavern Clifton (Anthony), Rhododendron Davenport, all of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Janene Romero (Isaac), Dameon Davenport, Mozelle Davenport and Bryant Davenport; a sweet bundle of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
