Sunrise…
Pecolia McRae McKoy was born March 1, 1942 in Laurinburg, North Carolina to the late Nathaniel McRae and Emma Kelly McRae. Peco was married to Alvin Leon McKoy for 51 years. They were married on September 30, 1967 in Wilmington, North Carolina.
A Life Well Spent…
Peco grew up in Laurinburg, North Carolina and received her early education from the Scotland County Public School System. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce in 1963 and a minor in Education from North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina. Peco was initiated into the Alpha Chi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at North Carolina Central University. Peco began her career as a government employee in 1963 with the Social Security Administration in the Durham, North Carolina office. She continued to work for this agency and advanced into management. Her last position with the Social Security Administration was as the District Manager of the Charlotte, North Carolina District. Peco worked for over 50 years with the Social Security Administration, retiring in January of 2015. She received numerous awards, certificates and citations while working with this agency because of her sustained leadership, and commitment to public service.
Peco and Al have been faithful members of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was very involved in several ministries within the church. Peco was a member of the Deacon board, Deaf Ministry, Board of Directors of Loaves and Fishes, Senior's Group, Rooms in the Inn, Missionary Group 5 and 6, Servant Leader, and Women of Faith. She served faithfully in these ministries until her death. Her Christian experience extended beyond the walls of Mt. Carmel. She was a willing worker in various communities in the Charlotte area where she lived for many years. She was also a dedicated team member of the Mecklenburg County Nursing Home Advisory Board Group.
Sunset…
After a long and beautiful life, Peco entered eternal rest on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. Peco was preceded in death by two siblings, James McRae and Andrew McRae.
Those Who Remain…
Peco leaves to cherish precious memories, her husband, Alvin McKoy. An additional significant part of her legacy is her family of children and grandchildren. She is survived by her two devoted children: Dr. Kelvin McKoy of Chicago, IL and Dr. Javonne McKoy White (Robert) of Fayetteville, GA. She leaves six grandchildren: Robert White III, Zion Trump, Jordyn White, Jared White, Rylan White and Ania Cooper. Peco is also survived by two brothers: Lee McRae (Cula) of Charlotte, NC and Larry McRae (Polly) of Lexington, KY and three sisters: Ophelia Hayes (Sherman) of Brooklyn, NY, Vernal Cooper of Charlotte, NC and Brenda McRae of Laurinburg, NC. Further surviving family members include one aunt, Myrtle Kelly of Jamaica, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
