Mr. Richard Waymon Lewis, 81 of Charlotte, passed away June 24, 2016 at Levine & Dickson.  Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Freedom House Church, 2732 Salome Church Road Charlotte .  Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at National Cemetery, Salisbury.
Richard was the son of the late Carl Edward Lewis and Essie Foust, born in Asheboro, NC on August 13, 1934. He was educated in the Asheboro, North Carolina School System, City College of New York and Seton Hall School of Law. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1985 at the Faith Fellowship Ministries World Outreach Center Church in Sayreville, NJ.  After retiring, he moved to Charlotte, NC and joined Freedom House Church in 2006.  Richard served in the US Navy as a medic with a specialty as a nurse in the Operating Room.  He also received a National Defense Service Medal.  Richard's family, as well as grateful nation, will always honor and respect his service to our country. Richard retired for the U.S. Government after 42 years of service.  In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Ann Lewis and three brothers, John Lee Lewis, Bobby Lee Lewis and Darryl McDermith Lewis. He is survived by his wife:, Mrs. Donella Lewis; one daughter, Dawn Andrea Lewis; one son, Phillip Taylor; one brother, Dr. James Robert Lewis (Barbara); one sister, Brenda Lewis; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
