Robert L. Cunningham, Jr. was born on May 20, 1949 in Charlotte, NC to the late Robert L. Cunningham Sr. and Mable Price Cunningham. He departed his early life on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Royal Park of Matthews Rehabilitation and Health Center, Matthews NC. He was preceded in death by his brothers Steven L. Cunningham, Sr. and twin brothers Ronald and Ronnie Cunningham.

Robert Jr. attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and after leaving West Charlotte Senior High School he began his work career with Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now as Atrium Health), where remained employed for many years until his health would not allow him to continue.

Due to his medical issues, Robert was unable to drive so he became the passenger-in-chief for his mother who would drive him to every doctor's appointment, every visit to the, every trip to the clothing store to make purchases. He would then have to ride along with her to pay bills, grocery shop and to visit relatives. The dynamite duo would eventually end up at Spoons on Hawthorne where they would have their afternoon repast. This was the most enjoyable part of the day for them both. After the loss of his beloved mother in 2005 his sister Pat became his primary caregiver and driver. She diligently did the exact same things that his mother had done for him until December 2020.

Robert Jr. was a very low key person and a man of few words. His normal response to most questions was usually one word. He didn't have much to say but he retained so much, especially if you borrowed money from him. He would remind you of your debt and he would always count to make sure you had given the correct change from purchases made for him. In his younger years he loved to dance and spent many Friday nights at West Charlotte Community Center dancing the night away. As he got older he settled for watching Atlanta Braves baseball, The Price is Right and the PBS channel.

Robert Jr's family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his brother Aaron when he cut his hair and shaved him, he loved going to the movies with his brother Steve, he loved when the twins would check in on him making sure he was ok when his sister wasn't there. The time he spent with his sister Pat day in and day out will always be lovingly remembered.
