Mr. Robert Gary Dawkins passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Robert Gary Dawkins, a faithful man of God, went home to be with Jesus, Mother and Father and other Saints on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.  He was born on February 10, 1956, in Boiling Springs, NC, the sixth child of nine to Robert and Martha Lee Dawkins.  His siblings are Tommy Lee Dawkins (Mary) of Shelby, NC, Brenda Ann Roseboro of Bradenton, FL, Linda Kay McDuffie of Greensboro, NC, Verna Sue McCluney (Larry) of Shelby, NC, Shirley Diana Hunt (Jerry) of Charlotte, NC, twin sister Roberta Grace Brown (Curtis) of Charlotte, NC, Martha Marie Smith of Bradenton, FL, and George Anthony Dawkins (Kim) of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Robert served faithfully for over 35 years at Greenville Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in the following roles as Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, Scout Master of Boy Scouts Troop #142, Missionary Patron, Van Driver, Class Leader, Church Sexton for many years, member of the Board of Christian Education, Life Member of the Lay Council and member of Men's Fellowship & Support Group.

He graduated from Crest High School in Shelby, NC in 1974 and attended Livingstone College, Salisbury, NC and UNCC of Charlotte, NC.  Gary was a historian, avid reader and knowledgeable in so many areas.  When you left his presence, you were always refreshed and came away feeling like you had learned something.  He had a love for different types of gadgets and coming up with strategies for various games.  He was a hilarious giver and ALWAYS looking for ways to be a blessing to someone.

Robert will be tremendously missed . . . especially that heavy base voice and kind way of making you feel so important.  His family loved him dearly BUT God loved him more.  We're looking forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
