Robert Roger Grier, 85, formerly of Baltimore, on Wednesday July 27, 2022, God called him to his heavenly rest.  He was the son of the late Robert and Luvadah Douglas Grier, was born May 12, 1937, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

His relationship with the Lord was cultivated at an early age when he joined Miranda Presbyterian Church and participated in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and other youth activities.

Roger was educated in the Mecklenburg County School District and graduated from Torrence-Lytle High School in 1955.  He attended North Carolina A&T State University for two years before being drafted to serve his country in the United States Army.  Upon his return to civilian life, he worked as a salesman for Home Security Insurance.  He strived for entrepreneurial pursuits, and one of his major accomplishments was the paving of the parking lot at Catawba Presbyterian Church through the joint efforts of his father Robert Grier and his brother Donald Grier. During this time, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Betty Gregory, and they were blessed with three children.

He later moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and married the former Emma Barksdale.  He joined the Douglas Memorial Community Church where he was a very active member of the Usher's Ministry, Men's Bible Study Group, and Transportation Ministry.  He continued his entrepreneurial efforts in property ownership/management, landscaping, and contracting.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Barksdale Grier, brother, Donald Grier, brother-in-law, JD Covington, sister-in-law, Anne Hatchett Grier, and four stepsons.

Mr. Grier leaves to cherish his memory, children, Sonja Grier Smith, Michelle Grier, and Vernon Grier, Sr.; one stepchild, Ronald Barksdale; grandchildren, Allen Graham (Jasmine), Worth Smith, III, Kia Funderburk, Saundra Smith, Vernon Grier, Jr., Kianna Funderburk, Deonte Grier, and London Grier; one great-grandchild, April Graham; sister, Virginia Grier Covington, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
