Obituary
Mr. Robert Willie Hankerson, son of the late Willie and Donie Hankerson, was born January 27, 1928 in Waynesboro, Georgia. Robert departed his earthly life on December 29, 2016 at the Brian Center in Charlotte, NC.
At an early age, Robert moved to Charlotte with his parents and siblings. He attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.
As a child, he went to St. Paul Baptist Church. He then married the late Charlena McLendon Hankerson on June 3, 1945. After marrying he became an active member at St. Paul Baptist Church, were served on the Usher Board for over 50 years.
As a young man, his first job was at Foremost Dairy in Charlotte. He then began a career in construction for Blythe Construction and Crowder Companies.
After retiring from Crowder Construction Company, he joined the Roadrunners Travel Club. He enjoyed traveling with friends, family and fishing on the Atlantic.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Charlena Hankerson, his daughter, Willie Belle Brown, his grandson, Marcellous Lytch and 3 sisters; Ruth Hankerson, Johnie Hankerson Brice and Ethel Kirkpatrick.
He leaves to cherish his memories, 2 sons; Albert (Christine)Hankerson of Gastonia, and Dennis (LuVon) Hankerson of Charlotte, 2 sisters, Addie Mitchell and Florence Hood of Charlotte, 1 brother, Calvin (Sandra) Hankerson of Charlotte, 1 special niece, Stephanie McCoy of Charlotte. 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Paul Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
