Mr. Robert Harold Massey, 82, of Charlotte, NC, departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Terra Bella Memory Care Unit.

Robert "Bob" Massey was born June 23, 1942, to the late Wadlow "Buddy" and Bertha Massey in Monroe, NC.  He departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Terra Bella Memory Care Facility in Rock Hill, SC.

Bob was educated in the public schools of Union County, completing elementary, middle, and high school at the Winchester School and earning his bachelor's degree in education at Winston-Salem State University (then known as Teacher's College).  He went on to obtain a master's degree in school administration from Appalachian State University.  Bob began his teaching career as a math teacher at Amay James Elementary School and later served at Tryon Hills and Derita Elementary Schools, both in Charlotte, NC, as principal.

Bob was personally asked to be a part of one of the first groups of administrators known as Teaching Fellows.  In this role, Bob mentored first-year and struggling principals.  He completed his over 30-year career in education as principal at Albemarle Road Middle School in Charlotte, NC.  After his retirement, Bob established his own trucking company, which he operated for 21 years.

Bob married the love of his life, Janette Bolden Massey on March 28, 1970, in Monroe, NC. Their union produced one daughter, Stephanie Nicole "Nikki" Massey.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Stephanie Massey; granddaughter, Morgan Streater; grandson, DJ Streater; brother, Nebraska Massey (Marianna); sister, Ilona Grier (Willie), sister-in-law, Abigail Crowder  (Larry); nephews, Erick Massey, Michael Grier (Ericka), Larry Crowder, Jr., Damion Crowder; nieces, Dionne Grier, Shana Nichols (B.J.), Kim Bolden, Kathy Caldwell; great-nieces, Michaela Grier, Mariah Jones (Allen), Maya Grier, Kamesha McGill, Whitney Fennell (Tremaine); and a host of cousins and friends
