Mrs. Roberta Wingard, 80, of Charlotte, NC, departed this life on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at her residence.

Roberta Derr Wingard, 80, made her final transition the morning of August 8, 2024, succumbing to cancer.

Roberta was born August 4, 1944, to Cora Mae Derr and the late Hugh Derr, Sr. in Denver, NC.  Roberta was an exemplary wife, daughter, mother and human being.  She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, unwavering faith, and an unending generosity that was seen in her care for her husband, children, entire family. Her generous heart extended beyond her immediate family, touching lives of countless others.  She was a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope within her community.  Her selflessness knew no bounds, as she dedicated herself to various charitable endeavors, uplifting those in need.  Her unwavering faith in God was a guiding light in her life.  Her spirituality provided solace during times of difficulty.

Diagnosed with Leukemia in 2023, Roberta was a strong fighter and fought to the day God called her home.  We know that she is free from pain and safely in his arms.  Though we mourn her loss, we find solace in the beautiful memories we shared and the profound impact she had on our lives.  As we bid farewell to Roberta, let us celebrate her life, honor her legacy, and carry her spirit of love and compassion in our hearts.

Roberta, affectionately known as "Frizz," was preceded to heaven by her loving husband of 50 years, Willie James Wingard, Sr.; her brother Hugh Derr, Jr., and her sister, Betty Crawford.

She is survived by her mother, Cora Mae Derr; four children, Joe Derr, Willie James Wingard, Jr. (Shemel), Terrice L. Wingard (Stewart) and Sherrah Wingard-Davis (Pete); eight grandchildren: Jacobee Garrett, Khidahry rown, Omari Wingard, Tyshoine McAfee, Qasiim Wingard, Shamari Wingard, Ayona McAfee, Jaquan Davis; and one great-grandchild, Eliyana Wingard; nine siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
