Mr. Ronnie Eugene Hood, 61 of Charlotte, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Atrium Health-Main. He was born on August 23, 1958 in Charlotte.
Ronnie's educational accomplishments include graduation from East Mecklenburg High School in 1976, Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from J. C. Smith University in 1982, Master of Arts degree in Education with a specialization in reading from National University in 2009, and was granted his teaching certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Ronnie worked as an educator for Smithfield elementary as a kindergarten and 3rd grade teacher where he retired after 30 years of services with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. He loved teaching and working with children and interacting with his fellow co-workers.
Ronnie was a long-time member of the Grier Heights Presbyterian Church. He was an active participant in the ministries of the church. He was an ordained deacon, choir member and Vacation Bible School teacher. Ronnie often lent his awesome talent as a caterer for many church events. In 2014, Ronnie was pleasantly surprised to be voted Grier Heights Presbyterian Church Man of the Year.
Ronnie was also active in Grier Heights Community. He taught adult learners at the Grier Heights Neighborhood Community Center and served on the Board of Directors of the Learning Collaborative Center.
Of Ronnie's many accomplishments, his most endearing was the joys experience in connecting with and touching the lives of those around him. During Ronnie's final days of hospitalization, he was visited by a host of friends and acquaintances from his past years of employment at Sears and Roebuck, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, as well as many friends and loved ones in his personal life. There were many memories expressed at Ronnie's bedside, recounting the joys of the good times they shared together. Ronnie was preceded to Paradise by his mother, Effie Lene Wallace-Hood, sister Katrina Maxine Hood, brother-in-law John King, and nephew Ronnie Kinard Marquis King.
He is survived by his father, Reverend Leroy Hood Jr.; brothers, Roy Lee Hood, Rickey Kinard Hood; sisters, Carlalene Hood King (Guy), Celialee Hood King, Vernetta Hood-Holliman (Larry), Zanida Scott; nieces, Mona' Kendrick (Rickey), Katischa Hood-Steele (Derrick), Alicia Pigott; nephew, Stephen Pigott; grandnieces, Aliyah and Alysia Williams; grandnephews, De'Sean Steele, Jeremiah Isaiah King; cousin, Paris Hunley Jr.; his God-son, Terrell Covington; and James Muhammad, his friend for over 20 years.
Ronnie, your smile brightened the lives of so many people. You will be missed.
