Ronnie Blackmon, Sr., 65 of Monroe, NC, departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at his home. He was born to the late Shedrick Blackmon and Reverend Lillie Belton Blackmon on May 10, 1956. He was the youngest of four siblings where he was tasked with the duty of protecting three older sisters. This was a task that he took very seriously and with honor.
Ronnie accepted Christ early on in his life and has been an active member of St. Paul Baptist Church for over 40 years. He could be found assisting and volunteering with several of the men ministries that make up the SPBC's Men of Valor team. He had a heart full of compassion with a strong desire to always give back and serve his community. It didn't matter if he was attending the Parking lot, preparing meals, volunteering with the Red Cross or working with Habitat for Humanity. He was always willing to lend his treasures wherever and whenever needed.
Ronnie was a 1974 graduate of Independence High School in Mint Hill, NC. His class was the first group of black students to integrate the all-white school. That wasn't an easy task for those classmates but they maintained and paved the way for many to come afterwards. Some of those classmates still fellowship to this day and are better known as the "Pat 74" which he cared for dearly and cherished the time they spent traveling and volunteering together.
While attending Central Piedmont Community College where he received his Associate degree in Engineering, Ronnie also worked part-time with Alexander Funeral Home here in Charlotte. He would continue his services with Alexander even after he graduated and accepted a role with Duke Energy and was a long-term attendant with them. He came on board at Duke as a Radiation Protection Specialist and would later be promoted to the Manager of the Respiratory & Instrumentation department position. He was one of a few Black individuals that managed both functions in the Nuclear Industry. He dedicated over 40 years to Duke Energy and was really looking forward to retiring this October.
Not only was Ronnie dedicated to his faith, his church and his community, he was also dedicated to his family. Family was extremely important to him and he made every attempt to provide for all of us.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mae Rose Watkins and his nephew, Michael Watkins.
He is survived by his wife Sheller Blackmon, two sons: Shedrick Blackmon (Jalysa) and Ronnie Blackmon Jr. all of Charlotte, NC. He leaves two sisters: Oraphila Erwin (Hazel) and Betty McClure; his loving grandchildren, Tatum and Harley Blackmon; and his nieces Joanna Dargan-Grier (Kerry); Arnetta Watkins, Letitia McClure, Tammy McClure all of Charlotte, NC and a hosts of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
