Mrs. Rosa Mae Smith,96, affectionately known as "Granny", "Ma," and "Sweets", was born February 21, 1925 in Blackville, SC to the late Will Steed and Phyllis Glover.  Early Tuesday morning, May 18, 2021, our heavenly father called Rosa to be with him in heaven.

Rosa was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie James Nix and Marion Nix, and one sister, Dorothy Martin.

Rosa resided in Blackville, SC throughout her childhood.  She was educated at Macedonia High School.  As a young woman, she accepted Christ into her life at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Rosa later migrated to New York where she worked in the shoe factory.  She later went to Pennsylvania where she worked in the ship yard as a welder.

Rosa later moved to Charlotte, NC where she joined St. Paul Baptist Church.  There she sang on the Hymn Choir.  She later joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health started failing.

Prior to retiring, she worked at Barringer Elementary School as a teacher's assistant and later at Bruns Elementary School.  She also was a devoted care giver for the Kitts family children.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Betty Caldwell; three grandsons, Raymond Caldwell (Demetria); Arnold Caldwell (Edwina) and Reginald Caldwell (Constance); one sister-in-law, Gloria Nix; ten great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and two more great-great grandchildren on the way and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rosa affectionately loved by all of her family and friends and will greatly missed.

Mom, you left us beautiful memories; your love is still our guide.  Although we cannot see you, you're always at our side.
