Mrs. Ruth Inell Stokes, 92 of Charlotte, entered into eternal glory on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at her residence. She was the youngest of seven children and was born on September 1, 1928 in Euatville, SC to the late Sam and Daisy Summers.

She grew up in Euatville, SC and migrated to New York at an early age to continue her education.  She met and married the late Frank Gray and unto this union was born one son Gregory Demetrius Gray.  She was dedicated to her family and work life.  She worked as a receptionist at Grace Square Hospital system for over 35 years until retirement.

Later in life she met and married the late Leroy Stokes.  She often expressed how much she dearly missed her husband upon his passing.  They resided in New Jersey and eventually moved to Charlotte NC in 1990.  While in Charlotte she became an active member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and was an avid participant in the "Seniors in the Spotlight" committee.  This committee was a Christian social group which most would say was up her alley because she loved to travel and socialize.

Ruth was well known for socializing and entertaining.  Her activities outside of church spoke to that side of her.  Friends describe her as being positive and called her a "social butterfly".  She belonged to a group called "The Sistah's Luncheon Group" which met monthly to dine and celebrate birthdays and once a year they would travel together.  She also loved to travel along with her husband before his passing.  They often traveled with other couples which her son called "The Cadillac Club".

She leaves to cherish her loving memories; her son, Gregory Demetrius Gray and Grandson Demetrius Gray; six stepchildren, Larry Stokes, Barbara Shubrick (George), Daphne Stokes, Jonathan Stokes (Monica), Jaqueline Mangual (Jose), and Vincent Stokes (Adraine); 16 Grandchildren and 29 Great Grandchildren; her extended family; the Sistahs; and her nieces.
