Ruth T. Williams, 83 of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital with her family by her side.  Born on December 11, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Tarrier and Jessie Bell Ballard.

She attended Second Ward High School and graduated from West Charlotte High School.  Ruth went on to obtain an Associate Degree in Social Work from Central Piedmont Community College.

Ruth was the matriarch of her family and dedicated her life to Christ at an early age where she served faithfully in the church until her health declined.

Ruth was first African American woman to be employed by the Department of Commerce Division of the Census Bureau in Charlotte NC, where she worked for 26 years.  She also worked at Cigna Health Care and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.  In addition, Ruth served as a Guardian ad Litem for Charlotte Mecklenburg County Court System and advocated education as a top priority for her children and all that were around her.  She was truly a loving and devoted mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Jessie Bell; one daughter, Vantrea; one son, Vincent; one grandson, Vanauga and one granddaughter, Vontwaneka.

Ruth leaves to cherish her loving memories five children, Viveca (Darryl) of Anderson, SC; Venida (Clarence), Vanay (Eddie), Charles, all of Charlotte, NC and Vaughn of Houston, TX; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a multiple of friends.
