Mr. Samuel Lee Ervin, "Sammy", age 77, departed this life on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Hunter Woods Nursing Center in Charlotte, North Carolina where he resided for the past seven years. He was born November 13, 1943 in Belmont, North Carolina and is the son of the late Julius and Hazel Linder Ervin.
Sammy loved Belmont and would always talk about it with fond memories. He was loved by all who knew him. He attended Reid High School and was raised in a religious household with his siblings. He took pride in working hard. One of his first jobs was at the Holiday Inn on Wilkinson Boulevard. After that for the next 37 years, he worked at Parkdale Textile Mill in Belmont, North Carolina in which he faithfully walked to work because he never drove a car.
He will be remembered for his quiet, gentle spirit. He loved family functions and cooking for holidays. His biggest love was watching cowboy westerns on television. Even at the nursing facility, they knew him best for watching cowboy westerns day and night, eating his KitKats and other snacks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives (he was married twice), three brothers, Willie Brannon, Matthew Ervin, Paul Ervin; and one sister, Mary Marie Burch.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Patricia Barrier of Charlotte, NC and Bertha Sue Ervin of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
