Samuel Kweku Mortu, affectionately called "Bra Sammy" was born on January 29, 1975, at Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana to Mr. Isaac Kojo Mortu and Mrs. Dinah Mortu. Samuel was the firstborn of four children. He obtained his basic, secondary, and post-secondary education in Ghana. After obtaining his Higher National Diploma as a Science Laboratory Technician, he worked in Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Meridian Clinic, and later at Noguchi Memorial Institute where his hard work gained him a scholarship to pursue further studies in Japan. He later gained his bachelor's degree in Bioengineering at All Nation University in Koforidua, Ghana, and worked for the University's Allied Science Department before leaving for the United States of America in 2013. Samuel's passion for learning and acquiring knowledge motivated him to pursue a nursing degree whiles working as a Certified Medication Aide in the United States. His remarkable work ethic was extolled by all his colleagues.

In 1998, Samuel became acquainted with Jehovah's Witnesses and thus began to learn the truth found in God's word, the Bible. After learning the truth, he dedicated himself to God and symbolized his dedication with water baptism on May 26, 2001. Samuel happily shared in the special privilege that all true Christians have of proclaiming the good news of God's Kingdom as the only solution to mankind's problems. He used his talent of being multilingual to serve in many congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses, including moving to help in a foreign language congregation in Charlotte, North Carolina. Samuel had so many outstanding Christian qualities and foremost among them was humility. His humility was what endeared him to all those who crossed paths with him.

"Bra Sammy" is survived by his parents, Isaac and Dinah Mortu, his siblings, Elizabeth Teiko, Micheal Tetteh, and Janet Korku Mortu, as well as his daughter, Maureen Mateko Mortu. He will be deeply missed by all. Although we grieve his death, Samuel hoped confidently in this scripture: "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous." (Acts 24:15) We look forward to welcoming Samuel back to a beautiful paradise earth where there will be no more suffering, pain, or death. - Revelation 21:3-5.
