Obituary

Sandra Denise Bridges, 63, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Redwood Health & Rehabilitation in Charlotte, NC.

Sandra Denise Bridges was born on May 6, 1963, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Charles Edward Bridges and Mary M. Gordon Bridges. She departed this earthly life for eternal rest and peace on Friday morning, May 29, 2026, at Redwood Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Sandra was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools System, graduating from The Metro School.

Sandra faced significant life challenges before the age of two years old. However, she still approached the world with a gentle spirit and a beautiful smile that will be deeply missed.

Sandra lived with her parents until 1998, when they became physically unable to provide her with the constant care that she required at home. With very much prayerful and mindful consideration, they agreed to place her in a group home in Charlotte, but her parents had her return home with them every weekend.

As Sandra’s health declined and her medical needs increased over the years, leading to more hospitalizations, she required, and was admitted to a skilled nursing facility in October 2025.

Sandra was a truly kind, loving, and energetic lady, who always demanded the attention of everyone in the room. She had a good sense of humor. Although she had trouble expressing herself, she recognized when someone was trying to get her to laugh and smile at their joke. Sandra loved shopping with her caretakers. She also loved dressing up in reds and other very bright and colorful clothing. She was extremely excited to attend family outings and be among her family. She looked especially forward to visiting and spending time with her sister Geraldine, and her brother-in-law William.

While living at the Group Home, Sandra always looked forward to dressing in formal wear each year and attending the Annual Social Prom.

She enjoyed listening and dancing to music. She also enjoyed listening to Gospel music. Sandra loved the Lord and listened intensely when Bible verses were read to her. She also looked forward to watching the livestream church services of Little Rock AME Zion Church which were shared with her on Sunday afternoons by her family.

In addition to her parents, Charles E. and Mary G. Bridges, Sandra was preceded in death by her brother, Charles M. “Snookie” Bridges; and her sister, Teresa A. Bridges.

She leaves to cherish her memories three brothers, Jerry Bridges (Renee) of Plaquemines, LA, Alvin Bridges and Harry Bridges, both of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Geraldine Bridges Lowe (William) of Charlotte, NC; one aunt, Kathy Gordon. Harris (Curtis) of Charlotte, NC; one uncle, Thomas Gordon of Charlotte, NC; and a host of cousins and other dedicated and trusting friends.
