Sarah Elizabeth Bellamy transitioned from this life to her heavenly home at her residence on Sunday, January 26, 2020 surrounded by her family at the age pf 83. She was remarkable strong and spiritual woman which was clearly exhibited during the last five years of her earthly journey. She was our much love "Shero".
Sarah Elizabeth Bellamy was born on Wednesday, April 29, 1936 in Clinton, SC. She was lovingly raised by her mother, Lelar Kinard and stepfather, Martin L. Kinard along with 3 sisters and 2 brothers. As the oldest sibling, she proudly performed the duties of a "mother" to them when her mother was often ill. They were fondly called Joe or Joe B by her siblings and family.
Sarah graduated from Second Ward Senior High School. After the birth of her 4th child, she enrolled in Johnson C. Smith University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education, 1966. She received her Master's Degree in Education from UNCC. Her granddaughter, Pashawn Welborn was the subject her thesis. Sarah taught in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for over 30 years. She loved teaching her second and third grade students. Because of her passion for teaching and love of her students; especially the underprivileged, she never had to fail a student.
Joe B, momma, Ma, Mama Sarah, Grandma Sarah and Miss Sarah were all names that she was known as by those she loved. She had a quiet and calm demeanor. Her favorite past time was being with her family both individually and collectively. She doted on her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She wrote them letters, created educational charts, and drew comic strips which they loved. She loved to read her bible, watch Jimmy Swaggart, cowboy movies, Wendy Williams show "how you doing", The View and Dancing with the Stars, the Charlotte Hornets and listening to old time gospel hymns.
She was a faithful member of Statesville Avenue Presbyterian Church. She sang on the Gospel Choir. Her love for children led her to volunteer as a tutor in the afterschool program for students of Statesville Road Elementary School. She truly loved her Wednesday noonday bible study group. She was an active member of both Presbyterian Women and Darcus Circle. She was recognized as Woman of the Year. She loved her church and believed it was her Christian duty to pay her tithes, truly support the church with any need.
She was a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She was also a member of National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc.
Finally, the most important part of the life of Sarah Elizabeth Bellamy's life was her family. She was married to Alston Bellamy, the love of her life for 58 years prior to his death in 2014. To their union, they had four children, Mitzi, Terry, Jackie and Elston. She cherished all of the activities that involved her children; family beach trips, Johnson C. Smith football games road trips, CIAA, cookouts, family reunions and all of our individual sport and educational functions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alston Bellamy; her parents, Lelar and Martin Kinard; two brothers, John and Alvin Kinard; sister, Stella Kinard Cropp. She is survived by Mitzi Bellamy Welborn (James) of Charlotte, NC; Terry Bellamy (Marcia) of Camp Springs, Md.; Jackie Bellamy Wall (Ted) of Charlotte, NC and Elston Bellamy of the home.

The many things she's done, who she was and lives she's touch could not fit onto this page.
